Bryan stood helplessly beside his brother’s body. He let a few tears fall as sadness flowed threw his own body. Just then a warm, burning sensation took over his body. It was Anger. He turned into his wolf form and stood over Mike’s dead body. He snapped and growled at every single person that tried to approach it. He would not let anyone near it. Not even his friends. It was their fault Mike had died. If they hadn’t ran away from the college in the first place, if they hadn’t drug Mike along, the innocent twelve year old would still be breathing and eating all the damn food. Why Mike? Why did you have to listen to them? He asked trying to hear Mike’s thoughts, but failed to do so. He only heard silence. Not a single thought came through Mike’s mind.
Whimpering Bryan let his body fall a crossed Mike’s cold breathless body. He laid his head lightly on his brother’s chest letting the tears blind his vision. That blindness was short lived when Bryan noticed movement out of the corner of his right eye. Jumping to his feet he snapped, brushing his teeth past a tan wolf’s muzzle. He snarled and glared into the piercing blue eyes of Cathline. She quickly stepped back and placed her tail between her legs lowering herself to the ground. She wanted to help Bryan but if he was going to protect his brother’s body there was no way she could get close to her. “Bryan” she sent her thoughts to him trying to get through to him. “Bryan please!”
“Go away Cathline! I can’t love you now. You were the cause of this! Go away!” His angry thoughts crashed into her mind like a wrecking ball. She felt her heart sink as she looked sadly into his glowing yellow eyes. Within that moment, Bryan sunk his teeth into Mike’s neck and turned around running into the forest with the boy’s body.
Cathline watched him disappear into the thick underbrush of the trees. The thought of him never coming back tore at her heart. There was nothing she could do. Bryan was leaving and she wasn’t about to run after him causing a fight. That was it, their love was over.
“Cathline…Don’t think like that. You’re my mate. I’ll always love you, just…not now” Those thoughts never reached Cathline’s mind. She had entered the forbidden woods and just before he sent that, a shot was fired. Cathline fell victim to huters. The beasts that don’t hesitate to take out any creature that crossed their path. Again, another mind fell blank to Bryan. Overwhelmed he threw up his head to the stars and let out a long sorrow filled howl.
